Micron (MU) Stock at $856: Taoyuan Union Rejects the Offer…

Updated 23 October 2026. Micron (NASDAQ: MU) closed at $856.49 on Thursday 22 October, down $57.18 or 6.3 percent in a memory-sector selloff, and traded $845.68 after hours at 7:59 pm ET (StockAnalysis). In Taiwan on Friday, the Taoyuan union said about 70 percent of its more than 2,300 members voted to reject Micron’s profit-sharing offer, and the talks scheduled for 1 pm at Taoyuan City Government were postponed to 27 October because of Typhoon Champi (FTV News citing AFP). Verdict: the labour dispute is now a four-day overhang on top of a sector de-rating; the union’s 15-percent-of-operating-profit demand is unchanged and Micron’s global quarterly bonus plan did not buy it off. Reference levels: $800 below, $950 above.

Key facts

Price: MU $856.49 at Thursday’s close, down 6.26 percent from $913.67; $845.68 after hours at 7:59 pm ET, down 1.26 percent (StockAnalysis). Market value $969 billion; 52-week range $192.40-$1,255.00. The stock is about 25 percent below its peak (TIKR).
Thursday’s selloff: memory and storage stocks extended a multi-session decline on worries about Chinese competitors such as CXMT and on AI-spending doubts; Sandisk fell 8.5 percent, Western Digital 6.4 percent and the Roundhill Memory ETF 7 percent, against a 2.9 percent fall in the Invesco QQQ (24/7 Wall St, StockAnalysis).
The vote: the Taoyuan union announced on Friday that about 70 percent of members voted against the company’s profit-sharing plan and that its campaign for “fair profit distribution” has not ended. It says Micron did not respond to any of its demands at the 21 October talks (FTV News, 23 October).
Talks postponed: the Friday session at Taoyuan City Government was moved to 27 October because of the typhoon (FTV News). The union’s 24-hour symbolic strike by 11 officials ran from 9 am Thursday to 9 am Friday and was not intended to disrupt production (Focus Taiwan).
Union demands: a one-off fiscal-2026 bonus equal to about 83 months’ salary and, from fiscal 2027, a quarterly pool of 15 percent of operating profit replacing the current Incentive Pay Plan (Statementdog, FTV News). The union says the NT$1 million thank-you payment Micron announced on 11 September equals about 4.4 percent of operating profit.
Micron’s offer: the 11 September package put Taiwan production staff at 35-68 months of total compensation with cash starting at NT$1.7 million (Statementdog). On 22 October Micron added a global quarterly bonus from fiscal 2027, with the pool tied to profit after tax minus projected next-quarter capex, paid half in cash and half in shares vesting after a year; in Taiwan it raised pension contributions from 8 to 10 percent, added three paid days off, lifted the day-shift allowance from NT$1,500 to NT$4,500 from 1 December and made structural salary adjustments (Reuters via KSL). Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan.
Taichung: the Taichung union signed on 21 October after a reported nine-to-two vote; Taoyuan chairman Jerry Lin disputes it, saying 12 Taoyuan representatives should have voted (Focus Taiwan). Micron Taiwan chairman Donghui Lu said the company respects the industrial action and will keep communicating.
Capex: at a 21 October technology webinar, president and chief technology and products officer Scott DeBoer said Micron’s AI roadmap needs progressively more wafers per bit, from HBM to vertical HBM; consensus fiscal-2027 capex compiled by TIKR is about $55 billion against $30.7 billion in fiscal 2026 (Yahoo Finance).
Analysts: RBC reiterated Buy with a $1,500 target and Needham $1,650 on 22 October; Mizuho $1,400 (18 October), BofA $1,550 (15 October). Consensus of 49 analysts: Strong Buy, average target $1,561, low $361, high $3,000 (StockAnalysis, 22 October).

The union said no, and the clock moved to Monday

Thursday’s symbolic strike, which we covered on yesterday’s page, was always the lesser event. The vote was the real one, and roughly seven in ten members rejected the package even after Micron layered the global quarterly bonus, the pension increase and the shift allowances on top of September’s 35-68 months. The gap is structural: the union wants a fixed 15 percent of operating profit written into a mechanism, and Micron’s plan deducts projected capex from profit after tax before the pool is set, which the union reads as a formula that shrinks exactly when the company is expanding. With fiscal-2027 capex consensus near $55 billion, that deduction is not small.

The typhoon delay matters for the stock because it leaves the dispute unresolved over a weekend in which the sector is already being sold. Micron’s Taoyuan site is one of two Taiwan fabs and the union represents about two-thirds of Micron’s Taiwan workforce (Statementdog); a strike mandate backed by 1,994 of 2,012 votes on 7 October is still live, and the union has said it will not announce a date in advance. Nothing on Friday changes output. What it changes is the probability that Monday’s session produces a deal rather than a date for a real strike.

What the sector is pricing

Micron’s 6 percent drop on Thursday was not about Taoyuan. The whole memory complex fell on the CXMT supply story and on the AI-capex debate, and Western Digital then beat and raised after the close and still fell about 6.5 percent after hours on rising DRAM and NAND input costs and higher capex, which we cover on the Sandisk page. For Micron the read-through is mixed: a customer complaining that DRAM costs more is confirmation of pricing power, but a market that sells a beat-and-raise is not rewarding pricing power this week. BofA’s Vivek Arya has asked whether customers trim memory spending once it reaches “half or more of the bill of materials”; that is the question the Street’s $1,561 average target assumes away.

Micron today: bull, base and bear

Bear$800The memory selloff extends into Friday’s session, Monday’s Taoyuan talks fail and the union names a strike date.About 6.6 percent below Thursday’s $856.49, below the after-hours $845.68 and the first round number under the October range.
Base$830-$900The stock trades the sector tape into the weekend, with the 27 October talks unresolved and no production impact.Thursday’s after-hours print to just under Wednesday’s $913.67 close.
Bull$950A Taoyuan deal on Monday on Taichung’s terms and a sector bounce after Western Digital’s pricing commentary is re-read as bullish.About 11 percent above Thursday’s close, back above Wednesday’s $913.67 and toward the October highs.

The bear case sits below Thursday’s close. These are reference levels measured from the verified quotes, not forecasts.

What to watch

Friday’s open: whether MU follows Western Digital’s after-hours drop or finds a bid on the DRAM-cost read-through.
Taoyuan union statements: any strike date or escalation announced before the 27 October session.
27 October, Taoyuan City Government: the rescheduled talks; a Taichung-style deal is the bull trigger.
Sandisk, 29 October: its March-quarter guide is the next hard data point on memory pricing.
Typhoon Champi: any reported disruption at the Taoyuan or Taichung fabs over the weekend.

Quick take: Micron is $856 after a 6.3 percent sector-driven drop. On Friday the Taoyuan union said about 70 percent of members rejected Micron’s offer and the talks slipped to 27 October because of a typhoon. The strike mandate is live, the 15 percent demand is unchanged. Expect $830-$900 into Monday. A deeper memory selloff and a strike date open $800. A Monday deal and a sector bounce open $950.
